Sherman Chamber Ensemble “Shinners and Schein”

Best of Baroque Concerts

April 20 in Pawling, Washington and Kent on April 21

The Sherman Chamber Ensemble’s “Best of Baroque” concerts have been praised as “stunning performances ... inspiring and uplifting.”  This year promises more of the same, with a program entitled “Shinners and Schein.”

Audiences will be treated to music for piano, flute and strings by masters of the Baroque including Bach, Schein, CPE Bach, Telemann and Albinoni.  The concerts are dedicated to the memory of Bill McGoldrick, remembered for his commitment to the Sherman Chamber Ensemble.

Returning this year is Yamaha Artist and pianist Evan Shinners, a graduate of the Juilliard School and now a mentor at the institution.  Since 2010, he has devoted himself almost exclusively to the study and performance of the works of J.S. Bach.

Shinners has received widespread acclaim for his innovative and daring artistry. He tours the world, delighting audiences with his stories, humor, original music, and Bach-playing.

Shinners is the inaugural winner of the Music Academy of the West’s Alumni Performance Award, presented earlier this year.

Other performers are SCE Artistic Director and cellist Eliot Bailen, Susan Rotholz (flute), Michael Roth (violin), Doori Na (violin), Jane Chung (violin), and Sarah Adams (viola).

Concerts on Saturday, April 20 at 4 p.m. at Christ Church on Quaker Hill, 17 Church Road, in Pawling, NY.  On Sunday, April 21 they will perform at 1 pm at the Salem Covenant Church, 96 Baldwin Hill Road in Washington, and at 5 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Church, 1 North Main Street, in Kent, CT.

General Admission tickets are $30, and children ages 15 and under are admitted free. Tickets may be purchased online at www.SCEmusic.org or at the door.  For information or reservations call 860-355-5930 or email info@SCEmusic.org.
