Beatrix Farrand: A Garden Artist with an Ecological Vision

Join the Sherman Library for Beatrix Farrand: A Garden Artist with an Ecological Vision, a presentation by Jennifer Yates on Saturday, June 28th at 11:00 a.m. at the Library.

 

Beatrix Farrand was America’s first female landscape architect and a founding member of the American Society of Landscape Architects. This fascinating presentation will cover some of Farrand’s most notable projects, including the White House, Dumbarton Oaks, the Ayrie and more.  Her outstanding contributions to garden design and ecology will be explored during the talk. The presentation will also touch upon the influential people in Farrand’s life such as Edith Wharton and Mildred Bliss. Farrand left behind an extraordinary legacy with some of her gardens still welcoming visitors. 

 

Jennifer Yates' has an artistic, architectural and landscape background with extensive experience. She received her degrees at the Rhode Island School of Design and attended classes at the New York Botanical Garden. She currently practices landscape design for local companies as well as through Jennifer Yates Landscape Design. Jennifer has presented at numerous botanical gardens on topics such as notable garden designers, sustainable garden design, rain gardens, interior plant scapes and numerous other topics.
