The Sherman Library is presenting a new art show: ”Abstract Reality” by multimedia artist Beth Levine.  Beth uses found objects to create wall hangings, wood sculptures and jewelry. Her vision is a 2D & 3D world of color, shapes, layers upon layers, added and subtracted, using whatever medium and material speak to her in the moment. The artist's reception will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025 from 6 - 8pm. The show will be on display at the Sherman Library from May 9 through June 11, 2025 both at the Library and on their website, www.ShermanLibrary.org. 

Beth Levine is a multimedia artist who lives and creates outside the box. Conventional rules and materials have never attracted her. Her media and materials are ever evolving, mixing photography, wood, stones, paint, crayons, pastels, fabrics, layering it all with paper and cardboard. She cuts and shreds, rearranges again and again. Sometimes it gets ugly before it works. The materials and processes are all guided by intuition.  Beth thrives in uncharted waters. Literally, whatever way the wind blows is where she goes, creating objects that call to us. 

Beth's creative process is always unfolding. She never sketches or plans. She unfolds, opens doors, feels the freedom of living outside the box. It’s a dance that resonates through her. It’s a current that she trusts will carry her where she needs to go. It’s an awakening beyond happiness... She opens, walks in.... greeting her reflection at her own door.  Beth enters her studio and begins without conscious thought. Her hands grasp, let go... throwing away all rules, saying yes to instinct. When she allows her mind to empty, truth emerges.

Beginning at age 5, seated on the floor, she can recall drawing ballerinas at to her Mom’s feet.  Beth's home studio for years, continues to be in Sherman, CT. She received a B.F.A. from Syracuse University.  Beth's work has been shown at the Sculpture Barn in New Fairfield, CT and the Hen’s Nest in Washington Depot, CT. Her past life work experience was as a Graphic Designer / Computer Graphics Artist holding staff and freelance jobs. Clients included  ABC Television, North American, Philips, and Solomon Brothers. Finally retired, she finds her true home in fine art.
