The Sherman Library is pleased to announce the next art show: “Natural Rhythms” – Oil Paintings by Lynn Slonaker. With a background in interior design, Lynn Slonaker uses colors, shapes, textures, light and shadow-plays to capture the feeling of time and place, and nature’s beautiful rhythms. The opening reception will be Friday May 10, 2024 from 6-8pm. The show will be on display at the Sherman Library from May 10 - June 19, 2024 both at the Library and on their website, www.ShermanLibrary.org

“Creative expression has always been a necessary and extremely important part of my life”, says Slonaker. Influenced by many wonderful artists and mentors, including her father, her creative expression is also derived from her professional careers as a graphic designer and art director, as well as twenty-five years of experience in the interior design business.

Whether plein-air or in her studio, she is inspired by beautiful landscapes and seascapes. Painting with oil or gouache is now her primary creative outlet. The act of painting has taught her to be more present and has magnified her observational skills. She finds inspiration and sees the elements of design all around her. “The incredible support and knowledge shared by the community of fellow artists, mentors and friends has enriched my artistic journey, for which I am profoundly grateful.”

Slonaker, a born and raised New Yorker, received a BA in graphic design. This led to a ten year advertising career in NYC as an art director and creative director. Her relentless love of interior design eventually led to the creation of ‘Design For Living’ an interior design business with clients throughout NYC, Westchester, New England and Florida. After retiring, she and her husband moved in 2016 to Pawling, NY. She has been painting ever since.
